Texas Stonewall Democrats Endorse Kendall Scudder as First Choice for Chair of the Texas Democratic Party

The Texas Stonewall Democrats endorse Kendall Scudder, Texas Democratic Party Vice Chair for Finance, as our first-choice candidate for Chair of the Texas Democratic Party. After extensive deliberation, our board believes Vice Chair Scudder’s leadership experience and long-demonstrated commitment to strengthening our state party make him the best candidate to lead Texas Democrats in our next chapter.

In keeping with the ranked-choice voting system the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) will use to select our next party chair,  our board has also endorsed Patsy Woods Martin as our second-choice candidate. We believe Mrs. Woods Martin’s experience would serve our party well too. In our endorsement vote, Kendall Scudder received 73% support, and Patsy Woods Martin received 27%.

Texas Stonewall Democrats President Robert Vargas III commented: 

"As Texas Democrats, we face a pivotal moment in our party’s future. Kendall Scudder has the vision, experience, and proven track record of commitment to our state party to do the job effectively. While he is our first choice to lead our party, we also recognize Patsy Woods Martin would make a great second choice. Texas Democrats should be proud that we have such strong candidates running to lead our party and we are hopeful for the party’s future with these leaders involved with it."

The Texas Stonewall Democrats are composed of members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-conforming, and queer Community and our allies to promote our civil rights through a grassroots-based Democratic political organization serving the State of Texas.
