The Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus is disgusted by Greg Abbott’s memo from January 30th directing Texas state agencies to follow radical Republican requirements around sexual orientation and gender identity which is only meant to inflict pain on thousands of Texans. 

 

“The Republican Party’s policy positions can be summed up very simply – inflict the most amount of pain as possible, as quickly as possible, on as many people as possible,” said caucus President Robert Vargas III. “Inflicting pain on a population that is less than 1% is cruel, and it is an attempt to distract from the failures of Republicans like Abbott over the last 30 years to solve for rising insurance premiums, public education and teacher pay, liveable wages, and crippling property taxes which should be some of the key policy priorities of the 89th legislative session. Trans Texans are not the source of people’s economic pain but Republicans are!”   

 

The Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus will continue to fight to represent ALL members of the LGBTQ+ community.  Recently, the caucus joined 21 other states and the District of Columbia to form the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats to coordinate, communicate, and otherwise collaborate together across the United States. Texas Stonewall Democrats will continue to work tirelessly to bring voice to the voiceless, and advocate for policies that improve the lives of hardworking people here in our state and across the country.
