New Coastal Bend Stonewall Democrats Chapter Launches in Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi, Texas — A new chapter of Texas Stonewall Democrats has officially formed in Corpus Christi, marking a significant step forward in organizing and mobilizing LGBTQ+ Democrats and allies in the Coastal Bend region. The chapter, named the Coastal Bend Stonewall Democrats, was established through Texas Stonewall’s innovative “social club” model, designed to cultivate local leadership and community engagement before developing into a full-fledged chapter.

Under this model, Texas Stonewall leadership partners with local LGBTQ+ leaders to build strong, sustainable networks within their communities. Over the past six months, organizers in the Coastal Bend have worked collaboratively to host events, foster connections, and lay the foundation for long-term political advocacy and civic participation.

The inception of this effort was made possible with the assistance of Nueces County Democratic Party Chair Rene Saenz and Texas Democratic Party Committeewoman Stephanie Guerrero Saenz.

The founding board members of the Coastal Bend Stonewall Democrats are:

  • Marilena Theresa Garza, President

  • Andre Ortiz, Vice Chair

  • Matt Stacy Stevens, Treasurer

The formation of the Coastal Bend Stonewall Democrats reflects a growing commitment to ensuring LGBTQ+ representation and advocacy across all regions of Texas, including communities that have historically lacked organized political infrastructure.

“We are very proud of the team that worked together to build this chapter over the last six months,” said Robert Vargas III, President. “Texas Stonewall is committed to fighting for LGBTQ+ issues across our great state. Our goal is simple: Elect LGBTQ+ Democrats and allies into all 254 counties across Texas. Join us in the fight for equality for all Texans.”

The new chapter will focus on community engagement, voter outreach, candidate support, and advocacy on issues impacting LGBTQ+ Texans in the Coastal Bend. Organizers encourage community members and allies to get involved as the chapter continues to grow and expand its impact.
